Review: Atlantis Rising (Warriors of Poseidon, Book 1) by. Alyssa Day

Atlantis Rising (Warriors of Poseidon, Book 1)

Eleven thousand years ago, before the seas swallowed the Atlanteans, Poseidon assigned a few chosen warriors to act as sentinels for humans in the new world. There was only one rule-desiring them was forbidden. But rules were made to be broken...

Description

When she calls...

Riley Dawson is more than a dedicated Virginia Beach social worker. She's blessed with a mind link that only Atlanteans have been able to access for thousands of years. Being an "empath" may explain her wistful connection to the roiling waves of the ocean, the sanctuary it provides, and the sexual urges that seem to emanate from fathoms below...

He will come.

Conlan, the High Prince of Atlantis, has surfaced on a mission to retrieve Poseidon's stolen trident. Yet something else has possessed Conlan: the intimate emotions-and desires-of a human. Irresistibly drawn to the uncanny beauty, Conlan

Review

I really liked this book, the reason I picked it up in the first place was the book is about Atlantis. I have been intrigued with Atlantis since I was a child. The second reason is the book was set in Virginia Beach, which is my home town. All that aside the story is totally original and I loved it. I thought the writing could have been a little better, and at times it seemed the characters were one dimentional but I connected with them. Riley is a loveable heroine, I loved her wit, humor, and her bravery.  Riley's empathy and caring for people would make you think she's perfect, but we soon find out that she's far from it. Conlan is a great mix of tortured hero, and bad ass warrior he is sexy, strong, and loving. I was so happy that Conlan found Riley and their love developed. These two are characters that you want to see good things happen for, because of all the heartache and unspeakable evil they have had to endure. I really liked the fact that Ms. Day  incorporated shifters, and vampires along with the Atlantean Warriors. When I picked the book up, I didn't realise that vampires and shifters were going to be involved in the plot of the story. That was a bonus in my opinion. There is also a cast of secondary characters that liven up the book, and have you wanting to know what's going to happen with all of them. Atlantis Rising is a brilliant start to this series, and I know you will be left wanting more..
